Finding Your Perfect Wedding Venue…

If you have recently got engaged, many congratulations! Welcome to one of the most exciting chapters of your lives. You may already know what your dream wedding looks like or it may be that your vision will come to you once you begin looking at venues, which is usually the first decision couples make with regards to their wedding.

Your venue really sets the tone for your big day, and there’s a lot to consider. Below we’ve highlighted our top 5 considerations to make when looking at venues, to give you a few pointers when making this important decision. Watch out for future blogs coming your way about how to pick a caterer, florist and much more!

So… venues, let’s get stuck in!

Budget – Recognising what your budget allocation is for your wedding venue is very important and should be done ahead of any viewing. By deciding on a budget, you are then able to narrow down your list of venues and create your short list from there. It is very common for couples to fall in love with a wedding venue which is out of their budget and then it can become very difficult to fall in love with anything else.

Location – Of course your wedding day is all about you and you should always go with a venue which you both fall in love with. However, there are a couple of points which should be considered…

  • If it’s important to you that particular family members or friends are in attendance, consider any travel restrictions or accessibility requirements when looking at venues to view.
  • Is there plenty of local accommodation? If your wedding venue has limited accommodation available it is always good to ensure there are some additional hotels nearby so that your wedding guests can stay there if they need to (especially if they are travelling long distances to attend).

Restrictions – Many venues have their list of recommended suppliers which can be great and super beneficial, however if you already have your heart set on a particular caterer or cake designer, then you may not be able to use them or there may be an additional charge. The venue’s licence may have restrictions on what time you can party until as well, so if you’re looking for a 2am finish, this may need to be taken into consideration. Points like the above are sometimes worth asking before you even see the venue.

Capacity – Each venue will have different maximum numbers so before you visit a venue it is really helpful to have drafted your guest list for the day and also for the evening reception to ensure that your short-listed venues can accommodate the numbers you are hoping for.

Visiting your venue – It is really important to visit your chosen venue more than once. We suggest after your initial show round it is really beneficial to visit again. If the venue is hosting an open day, this can be the perfect opportunity to see the space dressed, especially if you struggle visualising how a space could look. We also suggest (if you have a long enough lead time) to go and see the venue at the time of year you are getting married so you can see the grounds and how they will look at the time of your big day.
